In Spain the length of the bathing season varied between coastal and freshwater areas. In freshwater areas it lasted between two and four and a half months, opening between 15 May and 1 July and closing in September, depending on local conditions. In coastal areas the bathing season can start as early as 15 April and close on 15 September.
The Canary Islands are a special case, with the bathing season lasting ten months, from 1 January to 31 October.
