La Comisión da vía libre a la adquisición común del suministador alemán regional del agua por Midewa y Stadtwerke Halle
Mié, 20/10/2004
The European Commission has approved the acquisition of joint control in the German regional long-distance water supplier Fernwasser Sachsen-Anhalt by Stadtwerke Halle and Midewa, a regional utility co-controlled by Veolia Environnement from France.
Fernwasser Sachsen-Anhalt (FSA) is presently a State-owned holding company whose main asset is a shareholding in Fernwasserversorgung Elbaue-Ostharz (FWV), in which it shares control with Kommunale Wasserwerke Leipzig (KWL). FWV acts as a regional long-distance water supplier for local distributors and industrial customers in Sachsen-Anhalt and Sachsen, in eastern Germany.
On 14 September, the Commission received a notification whereby Midewa and Stadtwerke Halle (SWH), the municipal water and energy utility of the city of Halle (Saale) in Sachsen-Anhalt, requested clearance under the European Union’s merger regulation for their joint acquisition of FSA.
Midewa is a regional water distributor, which is jointly controlled by several municipalities and local utilities of Sachsen-Anhalt and indirectly by the French utility company Veolia Environnement, the former Vivendi Environnement.
The Commission found that the proposed transaction will not raise any serious doubts as the parties’ activities do not overlap. The Commission has also not found any risk of market foreclosure or other impediment to competition.
