Agricultural diffuse pollution from nutrients is widely acknowledged to be one of the most pressing environmental issues for a wide variety of reasons including:
- Nitrate levels in drinking water, failure of compliance standards and escalating treatment costs,
- Widespread damage to biodiversity both terrestrial and aquatic and the need to meet SSSI Public Service Agreement targets
