[Water Scarcity, conflicts and security in a climate change world: challenges and opportunities for international law and policy]

Although climate change is expected to have a major effect on the global environment in its broadest sense, one of its earliest and mostdirect impacts will be on Earth’s fresh water systems. While some regions will experience increased precipitation, others will suffer serious water scarcity. And some will endure both as climatic variability impacts regional weather patterns resulting in erratic or abnormal rainand drought events.
